1-3/4 cups + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons white sugar2-1/4 teaspoons baking powder1/4 teaspoon salt3/4 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg3/4 cup milk1 beaten egg3 tablespoons softened butter, 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla 5-6 cups oil for deep frying Mix dry ingredients, making a well. Slowly pour liquids into well, mixing dough. Chilling the dough at least an hour or even overnight makes it easier to roll out and cut.
Flour the rolling area to keep the dough from sticking. Using a 3" cutter, cut the doughnuts, using a smaller cutter to cut out holes. Place into oil that has been heated to 375 degrees.
Cook until browned on first side and then turn and continue cooking. Drain fat, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, or a sugar glaze. This should make 1 dozen.
Hope you enjoy them!
