Does Glen Beck deserve the protection of free speech guaranteed him by the United States?

I'm totally with kookoo88 on this. It seems that those who demand this right are at the forefront of those trying to deny it to those who disagree with them. I have to say: I don't like much of Glen Beck or his style.

But he has every right to say it and those who agree with him have the right to hear it.

He is a citizen of this country so yes he deserves it. Why is it not okay for him to state his opinion, but it's okay for others to say they wish he would die? Free Speech is something that should be guarded.

While I think it's wrong for people to wish death upon anyone I would think it is worse to say they aren't allowed to say it.

If we truly live in a free society he does. Who would decide that anyway. Is it okay to shut Beck up but not okay to tell you and me to pipe down?

When we live in a society where people cannot speak their mind about their government and the officials that run it, then we will have crossed over from a democratic republic into a very sinister world of communism. Beck has an accountability and to some extent a responsibility for his words and thoughts. At the most basic level, he is in the entertainment business in terms of his audience numbers, etc.In reality, if he cannot come across crebily to enough viewers and listeners, he is on the street looking for a new start.

That is the accountable side of free speech and it works. If you as a listener feels that what he is saying is in fact not true, then call his hand on it. If it in fact is true, then maybe he has given you cause to rethink who you might be listening to for your information.

Beck paints a picture of the potential for sinister action within the bounds of our country and our government. Far too many Americans are willing to stick their heads in the sand and scoff at Beck's suggest that possibly our government is being manipulated and that it runs deep into our history. Far too many Americans do not want to hear that...they want to live in the fairy tale world they have created believing that no matter what happens in this country, it always comes out right.

The reality is that is just not the case anymore...we have people in high places with plans that do not bode well for America and bully for Beck for calling their hand. WB.

It doesn't matter whether or not anyone 'deserves' it. What matters is that it's an inherent right and as soon as one person loses it, we all lose it.

Most certainly, yes, he deserves it. Just as any other citizen of this country deserves it. I don't always agree with him and he's a little "out there" sometimes but, yes, he deserves it.

I watch Beck and have learned much. He does great shows on the founding fathers. Let's hope his freedom to do so keeps being celebrated even by those who disagree with him.

Check out one of the comments by one of the enlightened on Media Matters website. According to Keith Olbermann Tea Party members are the haters. By Major Tom (May 29, 2010 8:12 am ET) I don't want any person to hurt him, but if god*(sic) or nature, or whatever decides to burst a blood vessel in his head today.

I will not shed a tear. mediamatters.org/blog/201005280025Intere... to see that Major Tom puts an asterisk after the word GOD. Why do you think that is?

If media matters deserves it then so does he.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
