The debt limit is to cover the cash flow for expenditures already approved by Congress. The liars in the tea party or freedom caucus convince the morons that support them that raising the debt ceiling allows for unlimited spending but that is just stupid. Ted Cruz lies to you because he knows you are too stupid to do your own critical thinking.

Raising the debt ceiling allows the government to borrow the cash to cover our current obligations, paying bills we already incurred. It is like putting things on a credit card but refusing to make any payments when the bill comes due and calling that cutting spending. It is too stupid to believe that people still think this is a good idea.
