I have what is called a "framed" litter box, and it really does keep most of the litter from flying everywhere. I don't thing either I or the cats would like those boxes that are totally enclosed... who would want to entrap all that odor into that confined space? I tried one of those framed boxes, he still flung it all over LOL, I don't like those covered boxes for the same reason as you, they trap the odors inside.

I have this really big marmalade tom who if he sees anyone around or even near the litter box, just sits next to it and meows at you to leave the room. There is a reason for all of this, parasites. Because cats are such major carnivores, they can ingest some nasty bugs that could easily kill them if the symptoms are not spotted early.

Your cat is just making sure that the newset is placed at the bottom where it can cause the least amount of harm until those parasite eggs die off.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
