Elderly parents living in mice infested home & won't let us help them. who should we contact?

I am sorry you have your life turned upside down. I say go back. You are not working, so you don't have a regular pay coming in and unemployment will run out.

The other thing your mother is old with medical problems and her application to come here will be seen as a liability and will most likely get turned down as you have no means to prove you could support her. If she is confused now and you WERE to bring her here she would really be in a mess. This would be hard, she would not know the culture, language, would ONLY know you.

Period. I grew up by a German lady who sent after fighting with immigration for a few years to bring her mom from Germany. Her mother had dementia and she was found on a freeway on ramp ''TRYING'' to get home.

My neighbor had to find a care center for her mom... Not easy. Go back honey. You are young and can come back later.

Good luck.... Please go back.

At 70, her time might not be as short as you think - it can be a very very long way until 90 and if you think she is difficult now, as dementia progresses, and it sounds like she may be in only the merest begining stages, she will become more difficult possibly but surely need more care - and unless you are earning much more than $20 an hour that home care might cost, it is financially a disaster area that you might be heading for... It will be far easier and much cheaper for your "whole" family to share the burden of caring for her in Colombia than to uproot her at this point in her life and bring her to USA. If you feel a deep obligation, you can go back - but probably best would be to work in USA and send some $ back to the family to help them in their care - w/skype and computer it is easy to stay in daily contact and see and chat with your mom so she won't miss you too much. Americna living in Thailand who had 2 parents w/dementia - they both lived to age 91 and each yr was progressively more difficult.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
