Sounds like you should talk to him about it. First to answer your question: If I said I'd like to have a relationship with you, then I'd carry through on it. If for some reason I changed my mind, then I would talk to you about it.

Anyone who I cared enough for to ask her to wait deserves at least that. With regard to your specific situation, I think you should talk to him about it. It would create a very awkward situation if you moved on and then one day he showed up and said he's ready for a relationship with you.
