Has anyone out there had a problem with the 2001 GMC Duramax Diesel 6.6 liter engine, mainly overheating?

Has anyone out there had a problem with the 2001 GMC Duramax Diesel 6.6 liter engine, mainly overheating. Have a 2001 GMC 3/4 ton Suburban pickup with a 6.6 liter Duramax diesel engine. About two years ago, the engine started overheating.

Had both thermostats replaced and still had the same problem. Had two new water pumps put in and that didn't help. There seems to be an air lock in the cooling system and no one can figure out what to do.

The whole system was bled or burped, which did no good. The cooling system is supposed to hold approximately 5 gallons of coolant and I can only put in about 1 1/2 gallons. When the engine gets warm, it starts pushing water out the overflow pipe.

If anyone has had a similiar problem, I would love to know. Any Suggestions? Asked by arbean 56 months ago Similar Questions: problem 2001 GMC Duramax Diesel liter engine overheating Recent Questions About: problem 2001 GMC Duramax Diesel liter engine overheating Transportation > Automotive.

It's all about Gearing.. but that's not the whole story.." Ok, be assured that this NOT an engine Efficiency thing. (all things being equal)But they're not equal! (more on that later)Assuming no engine modifications.. what we're seeing are the effects of Gearing (for the most part).

The Dodge's larger tires have effectively Geared his truck to a Lower ratio. Your GMC's smaller tires have effectively Geared your truck to a Higher ratio. Lower gearing = better gas mileage, lower revs but less torque.

Think "Granny gearing" = 2.65:1Higher gearing = worse gas mileage, higher revs better acceleration. Think "1/4 Mile drag racing gearing" = 4.11:1 (also better for Towing! )The Dodge will have better fuel mileage, higher top speed, BUT will lose low-end torque, and his revs will be too low for low speed rock crawling!

Your GMC will have Better low-end acceleration (1/4 mile), higher revs for rock-climbing, BUT you'll have lower fuel efficienty, and slightly lower top speed.Now.. more on the "Things are Not equal"! Chances are your Diesel is geared Lower to begin with! Diesel engines' powerband is higher up and depend on more revs than gas engines.. listen to the big rig's big 'ol 6-cyl turbo diesels spool up!

They have 14+ gears! Just to keep that big 'ol engine High up in the RPM band for peak torque & horsepower to haul their loads up a hill! Gasoline-engined trucks will tend to be geared lower.

And/or if you have an optional "Tow Package" on Your truck.. you may be geared Lower also! Which is a blessing when rock-climbing, or towing heavy trailers! Engine modifications can free up more horsepower/torque, and Yes.. intake/exhaust mods may make for an "easier breathing" engine.. but more air means more fuel.. the ECU compensates to achieve the ideal air/fuel ratio.. stoichiometric = 14.7 to 1 for gas engines.

So engine modifications for Power *will* mean a decrease in fuel efficiency. Below are some Very Useful calculators that give you Before and After affects of upgrading Tires/Wheels..* Excellent(!) Basically, it is stock but has a little larger tires (33"). I get on average 15 mpg. I have a friend that gets 18 to 20 in his Dodge Ram and he has 35 inch tires and usually travels the highway at 80 mph.

I feel like I am getting ripped off. Any suggestions? Sources: askville.amazon.com/Fuel-Economy-2006-GM... .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
