Network Marketing, Direct Sales, Multi-Level Marketing - See details! Using the scale 1 = strongly agree, 2 = mildly agree, 3 = undecided, 4 = mildly disagree and 5 = strongly disagree, how would you rate the following statements? They are all just "get rich quick" scams.

Scam terms! Those of course are the terms used in scam businesses worldwide. MLMs are scary and should be avoided like the plague; they are how the rich (those who get into them early) take advantage of pretty much everyone else.
Direct marketing is telemarketing, junk mail and other ethic-less marketing and sales. I (1) strongly agree with both statements. I feel that way because common sense and college classes in marketing, business and economics taught me to use a critical framework to analyze all arguments and claims, and very few of the marketing techniques used in such businesses pass even the first test of a rigorous claims-checking.
Greed will make people believe anything, and it will make them hurt other people - and themselves. Sources: experience, common sense.
I was part of a Network Marketing Company. I still use their products but do not actively seek to sell them anymore. I would rate both of your statements with a 4.
I've only worked with one particular company but I did a lot of research into other companies, their products, their compensation plans, etc. I rated both statements 4 because I think that there are some companies that are just pure scams, the only people making money are the ones who started with the company when it was young, and their compensation plans show this. If you're looking into a company and they're evasive about showing you HOW you'll be making money steer clear! However, in the company I worked with, my husband and I did make some money (and still occasionally receive checks) and many of the people we worked with, who were working very hard (harder than us) did and still do make quite a bit of money.
I actually personally know a couple of people who were able to replace their incomes and do the MLM (multi-level marketing) full time. Friends have won cruises, bonuses, and other trips and rewards. These are NOT people that are in the top level of this particular company.
I'm truly convinced that at least with this company, if you worked hard and were consistent you could definitely earn a living this way. By the way, the reason we no longer do this is that the company manufactures and sells health supplements and it was just getting frustrating for us (a young couple) to convince people to take and stick with these products. People would start taking them, see results, then say they were too expensive, stop taking them, and then complain about their health.
It was maddening and we hated dealing with those personality types. It was also taking a lot of time when we were just getting established into new careers and we didn't want to do this full-time. Still, we take the products and are still distributors (we have been for around 9 years now and the company is still around), so if at any point we want to start selling again we can.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
