How can I avoid the pain in my 9 year old's finger tips after cutting his nails even though they are not cut too short?

We cut his nails after a bath. They are not cut too short. Yet he complains that his finger tips are very sore for a few days after cutting his nails.

Teach him to file his nails Once a week, have him file them. It may be that his nails are thick and curved, and the bending of the nail against the bed of skin to trim it it what's making it sore. When I would get gel sets applied, my fingers would be sore for a couple days after.

Teach him to file them and there won't be any bending against the nail beds. I don't wear fake nails anymore and I avoid cutting them as much as I can help it. I file them because I think I get a more natural, even shape.

(I tend to cut lopsided with nails. ) But don't file after a bath, the nails are weak at that time since they've absorbed so much water. Also, make sure he's getting his vitamins!

That helps with healthy nail growth. HaleyBob's Recommendations Sephora Brand 4-Step Buffer Sephora Brand Emery Board Every weekend, I do the four stepper. :) I also keep a nail file in my purse and in my desk at work.

Try filing them You could try filing the nails down to see if that makes a difference. Or cut them at night while he's asleep, like some parents do with babies. That might help if the pain is psychosomatic.

Could your son cut his own fingernails? A scissors might be a bit tricky, but one of those little clippers might work, like in the picture here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_clipper. If he has more control, he might feel better.

If nothing works, talk to your pediatrician about it. S/he might have some other ideas or gadgets that would make this easier. Good luck to you & your son!

1 Mine don't get sore, but I do get a weird feeling occasionally. If I let them grow too long for too long of a time, and then cut them back to short (but not too short), it takes me about three days to get used to them being short again. During that time, touching things with my fingertips always feels "off".

I find that I don't have that problem as much or that it doesn't last that long if I don't let my nails get too long ever. So, I end up trimming off just a sliver every week or so.

2 If he says it is hurting him, I'd let his fingernails stay a bit longer. I had to do this with my grandson - I got him a nail brush, and I make him use it! Little boys and dirty fingernails go hand in hand.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
