Mmmmm...Butcher Block countertop...NICE! Bleach it with a dilute solution of bleach and water. Rinse it VERY WELL.

For tough, stubborn stains, use a baking soda paste by mixing baking soda with water. After you get the stains out, do not ’seal’ it like you do stone; but season it with olive oil instead. Then season it with the olive oil on a regular basis.

Depending on the stain You might need to refinish the surface which means sanding down the top until you get past the stain. That's the beauty of butcher block... To refinish, you need to seal it with several "coats" of mineral oil rubbed in well, and allowed to dry in between coats. If this sounds scary to you, you might want to contact a professional kitchen counter installer to get them to either render an opinion or do the job.At least with a professional doing the job you have some assurance that it will be done right.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
