How can I prevent and treat spider veins?

Since the causes of spider veins are not yet fully determined, these are some tips that may help in preventing spider veins: 1. Keep your feet elevated when possible. The legs should be higher than the heart as possible to increase flow of blood to the heart 2, Do a regular exercise by walking, climbing the stars, cycling and swimming.

This will keep the calf muscles in motion and activate calf muscle pump, thus, reducing pooling and pressure in the veins. 3. Frequently move your legs by flexing your ankles periodically.

This will help pump the blood out of your legs as in walking simulation. If you are going to sit for a prolonged period of time, flex your ankles 10 times and repeat this every 10 minutes. 4.

Use compression hose for this will provide graduated counter-pressure to aid in venous blood flow to the heart. It also reduces the pooling and pressure in the veins. Wear this during long plane and car rides.5 Avoid sitting and standing for longer period of time.

If you cannot avoid doing this, try to stop and go for short walks every few hours. 6. Don't expose your legs to excessive eat such as hot tubs and hot baths.

Heat has a tendency to increase vein distention and lead to more pooling of blood. These are the treatments; 1. Conservative treatments: leg elevation, regular exercise, wearing of compression stockings, taking of Diosmin/Hesperidine and other flavonoids, taking anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen and aspirin 2.

Interventional treatment *Endovenous Thermal Ablations *Ambulatory hlectomy and CHIVA.
