In preschoolers, mild vision loss is usually not suspected or detected until a doc screens them at about age three. Signs include squinting, sitting too close to the TV, or having trouble with tasks that require visual acuity. More serious vision loss may be associated with body rocking and gazing at fingers and hands, as your child moves them quickly in front of her face.
If you suspect a problem, you need to get an evaluation as soon as possible. Vision issues aren't just about sight, but they're also associated with developmental issues as well. Treatment can correct or improve not only sight but also many developing skills.
