That is what unions do. They protect workers. However, there are jobs to be had.

People chose to work.

Thank you for your reply to my question about Amazon work conditions. Have a great new year. Skylight 10 days ago .

Well, it seems superficial to me now. You are welcome and I do hope you have a great new year, too.

Welcome to America; the land of the free. This is why businesses should not be allowed to police and regulate themselves. This is why we need a strong federal government to guarantee the rights of the workers.

This is why capitalism is a terrible economic model and very socially unappealing.

BTW, I'd be more concerned about the way Walmart treats their employees than Amazon.

Agreed. I know there are many businesses that severely mistreat their employees. I just read an article about where Apple has its ipods made... URL1 makes you sick.

Thank you for your colorful and applicable response! Skylight 22 days ago .

I worked in the warehouse industry for 15 yrs. And know these conditions are a reality. Unions are seperate from what goes on in the entire industry.

You would have to stop buying anything. You're only observing what has been reported. I've worked hand unloading file cabinets from the back of semi trailer, in Florida, in August.

The further back you get, the hotter it gets(up to about 150 Deg. ). It's just the nature of the beast.

Companies say they have employee safety as a concern, which is get yourself some water, now back to work. There's a simple solution. If you cant take the heat, stay out of the semi.

Thanks for your informative response. It seems we are always positioned between some rock and a hard place in this world. You can't live without the goods, but you can't stand how people are treated.

I agree as I worked there last yr for 2 weeks. They do tell you that you will stand 12hr a day, do a lot of lifting and bending and only make minimum wage plus time and a half for overtime. Plus during Xmas you work almost everyday.

I had to quit as it would of killed me. I began to feel like part of a herd of cattle . When it was break time or lunch time everyone converge at once to a specific spot.

Than when we returned to work it was a rush to get back to work or you would be penalized if not back by the late buzzer. I am surprise they get away with it but if an employee is made aware before hand there is not much that can be done except quitting.

Thank you for your informative response. I am so sorry for anyone who is subjected to such demoralizing work conditions. They sound really URL1 makes me sad, as before I read the article about their work conditions, I really liked Amazon.

The only positive thing I can think is that compared to them, any work is a change for the better. Thanks again. Skylight 10 days ago .

Unemployment so high it is overwhelming when you see hundreds applying for jobs under such conditions. I know when I applied at Job Fair, for Xmas hire, I was there for over 7 hrs and still did not get hired for another week. So many showed up that they were swamped with over 500 applicants at the 2nd one in 2 days.

I am in AZ I can imagine other sites were just as bad. But their turn over rate is also big because of the work conditions so there is always openings. Fortunately I don't have it as bad as others who have not been working for months or years.

This is indeed very, very sad... I had no idea this kind of stuff was going on! And we call our system a democracy, pat ourselves on the back, and smugly declare that we are more humane than the rest of the world...yeah, right! Those extreme right-wingers who are so vocal in their opposition to communism should consider the fact that communism usually triumphs in any given country due to the abuses of capitalism!

Cuba is a great example of this. In Russia, the corruption of the aristocracy was the culprit. I think there should be a healthy balance between capitalism and communism in every country on the planet.

Extremes of either left or right are dangerous. Both capitalism and communism need to be regulated, because both become despotic if allowed to be THE ONLY political system running a country. Most of the time, I prefer to order from third-party sellers on Amazon anyway, because their prices are even lower than Amazon's.

Now I have an even better reason to avoid ordering directly from Amazon! Thanks for this important information, shocking as it is! .

Happy New Year! I am so sorry but your great response somehow slipped through the cracks and I didn't see it until today! Great points and well thought out.

Thanks so much. Skylight 10 days ago .

Oh, you're quite welcome! And coincidentally, I had not been back to AV until today... Happy New Year to you, too! I wish there were more sweet, kind people like you in the world!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
