How do I sew a 1950's style petticoat/crinoline?

I am not familiar enough with Photobucket to find your photo, so I've not seen it. However, I can tell you a cpouple of tricks off the top of my head for getting skirts to stand out better, 50s style. One thing they used to use was called 'horsehair braid.' It's not really horsehair and it isn't really braided, but it works.

You can get it at better fabric stores, especially those dealing in wedding gown supplies. It gets sewn inside the bottom hem. With a petticoat, this helps the skirt lay better.

Without a petticoat, it helps the skirt not to tangle itslef around your knees when you try to walk. To do the petticoat, start with a big circle of fabric similar to a bedsheet. No-iron percale is wonderful, but any poly-cotton blend will do.

Make your waist and hem however you're confortable doing. Put a short row (10" deep) of gathered netting about 11" above the hem of the circle. )All the netting goes inside, by the way, so the smooth cotton petticoat lays on top.

Line it or wear ... more.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
