If I am stuck somewhere doodling can really help me feel less anxious. I have been known to compose works of doodle art during a boring meeting. As long as you have something to write with and a scrap of paper you're set.
You don't have to be artistic either. Sometimes I write words too, especially if I am upset and don't want to say the wrong thing. You can write your words in shapes and all different directions which becomes art too.
I say to myself : Serenity NOW! Works everytime :).
I go into myself, and have a rational conversation, telling myself of all I've overcome to get me this far. Reminding myself that I handled every obstacle that been placed infront of me so far, this will be no different. Then I press on!
I think about Phillipians 4:13-" I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
I just remember "this too shall pass". It's a cheesy quote, but it works for me.
Hmmmmm. I think I should think of Japanese.
It depends on what is causing my anxiety. I'm not a particularly anxious person, but now and again overload causes me anxiety - so I do one of two things. 1.
I mind map, creatively with doodles. I look through my mind map, see what I can change or do something about. Anything that is out of my control gets crossed off the list.2.
I do something creative, write a poem, cross stitch, draw, make jewellery. Creating is good for anxiety - it is my kind of therapy.
I first breathe... three deep breaths slowly in, then out. I then make sure I am hydrated, usually drink a whole glass of water. Then I relax, starting with my feet, I identify and focus on each part of my body and tell my self, relax your feet... and so on.
This helps to relieve my bodies reaction to the anxiety and momentarily takes my mind off it. Then I go to my happy memory place in my mind, if the anxiety is still overwhelming. Right now my happy memory is of renting a boat and fishing on Yellowstone Lake... I go through the adventure step by step including the fish I caught and remember the joy.
If I am still anxious, If I can, I change my physical surroundings.
When I get anxious, I sit down and try to search out my thoughts as to what may have upset me during the day. I cancel out the negative thoughts that I may have had I quickly forgive myself or another for whatever judgmental thought I may have had. I then meditate or listen to inspiring meditative music or I sing.
Or I write. Taking a nice relaxing bath always helps..I seek out quiet places like beaches or woods. I love to dance, so I can always dance irish jigs, or play my drums!
I imagine about my parents, how they work hard to nourish me and my God who make me live happy!
I take a moment to get a better perspective.
In times of anxiety I clear my thoughts, take a walk in nature and play with my dogs. Animals have a very calming effect and are fun.
Roll up a paper plane and take off from the runway. ;).
A good dose (30 minutes or more) of intense cardio exercise has been shown to increase serotonin (aka the 'feel good' chemical) levels in the brain. It certainly works for me!
I focus on tasks and activities that I can control that meet my goals. On a daily basis, I have a sense of accomplishment as complete the process.
I take deep breath, go out for a little walk or engage myself in doing something I like. I say to myself that I am not alone, God is there with me and He will guide me all the way.
Believe it or not, chewing gum helps anxiety! Also, if I'm really anxious, I need to stay busy. I have to DO something...I can't just sit and "try to relax" by watching TV or reading.
That just makes it worse! It's like, when your body is anxious, it wants to "do something about it.
hubpages.com/hub/Anxiety-an-Internal-FightI just wrote an article on this actually. Hope you find it helpful.
Coping can take some time and thought. When you are in the feeling of high anxiety, the best thing you can do is meditate, or inhale in and exhale out, like when you are about to play an instrument in the band in which you have to inhale right when you begin playing the written notes.
I think "choose" is the key word here and I'm glad you included it in the question. For so long I "chose" ineffective and unhealthy ways of coping with anxiety and I learned the hard way, so to speak. These days I choose to first take a step back when I know I'm anxious.
And once I'm aware that I'm in a stressful situation, I may close my eyes, take some deep breaths and coach myself through it. I often verbally guide myself along in my head reciting things that I have found work for me to get over some of the emotions. Then at some point I think about the things I CAN do and work towards that.
I have found that worrying does very little but that it is important to acknowledge any and all your feelings about a situation to respect yourself.
Decelerate all that you are doing even if only mentally take deep shallow breaths and try and zone out everything that is happening around you except for on thing or sound listen to it until you feel calm and go back to what you were doing earlier.
I play a game or watch an entertaining movie. If the weather is nice I go for a good long walk.
Relax. Meditate on positive things. Breathe deeply.
Remind myself that being anxious does not solve anything, but only leads to more problems. Prayer also helps. Talking to a friend about the issue.
All of these things can stress and anxiety.
Sometime you have take deep breaths and remind your self everything is going to be fine. I know its sound easier said than done but trust yourself you can take control of the situation.
Well that is if you think it like this way, Everything including your thinking is relative. Even in the dark you can be happy if you are with your friends or family. But when you are alone then you become scared, both of the occasions were held in the dark.
Isn't IT>\?
Breath. Think of what really made you anxious, and if possible, let go. Then listen to some music, watch a tv or a series that can make you laugh.
Make yourself busy.
I clear my thoughts, not thinking of anything for a while and breath deeply. Like I'm concentrating of having a peace of mind. It works for me.
:).
I take 3-5 long slow deep breaths. Some times anxiety is caused from a medical condition so its best to have a good blood work up. My teen started having bad stress anxiety issues, was at urgent care 3 times in one month with bad neck pain and head aches from stress.
I made an appointment for a full check up and come to find out she is LOW ON VITAMIN D and doing research, yeah being low on D can cause anxiety.. She also has 3 thyroid nodules, her levels are within normal range but good to know she may be low on getting her daily iodine, urge her to eat more food with iodine too.. I say get checked out too! GOOD LUCK!
By doing diversional activities like playing instruments or going out to shop.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
