How do you pronounce pecans? Do you say Pee-cans or Puh-cawns?

Around Philadelphia, I've actually heard it both ways... I don't like pecans so I rarely say it haha... A couple of Christmases ago, a relative brought this question up and everyone was torn. I guess I say "puh-cahns"... Although I think it would be funny to totally ignore either way and start saying "PEC-ans...

In the Southern U.S. It's usually pronounced with the long e, pee-cans or pee-kahns. However, since I'm only a transplant to the South from the Midwest, I say puh-kahns.

I pronounce it Pee-cans but now that you've got me thinking about it I may try to switch to Puh-cawns.

I've only heard pee-cans and pe-cans, I would go for pe-cans with the short e because there is no grammatical reason to use the long e. Also, pee-can, sounds like something that goes under the bed at night for those people who have lavatories a route march from the bedroom. I think that in England, you would have problems being understood with, puh-cawns.

I have always pronounced it, puh-cawns. My wife says it, pee-cans. It's a long standing debate in our house over the correct pronunciation.

Being from North Carolina (we country) we drag our words out, we say peeeee-cans! :).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
