Changing a heater core in a Chevy 1500 It's actually very easy! First, you may want to drain some of your radiator to below the heater core hose level Second, disconnect the two hoses going through the firewall to the heater core. You may have to clamp them, but you shouldn't lose much if you drained the fluid already.Be sure not to drain it into the sewer or on the ground where it can pose a threat to animals Third, go under your dash under where the glove compartment is, and there is the "box".
There are about 8 screws. Drop the box Remove the core Re-install in reverse Put in fresh fluid And you're done!

There is a box right under the glove box where the heater core rests. Its real easy to get to. Make sure you CAREFULLY take the bottom piece of the box off, after that it's a piece of cake.
