How do you separate your personal life from your professional life?

By putting on a mask while at work. It is difficult and takes a while but it is possible.

I make a practice.......a sort of vow..........I never discuss my husband at work, beyond my staff knowing that I wear a wedding band. At home, it is a bit harder, for the " problems" and " decisions" linger on my mind. I simply go about my chores...........express my concerns, when my hubby is receptive and keep them hidden when he is not.

He has his own issues..........which I do not grasp........even when he goes into detail and diagrams..............I sometimes, want to scream...............HANDLE ITHe tends to want to offer a solution.........without knowing what that solution will cost and mean to my staff. I am professionally, personal..............my husband works in a totally different arena. I learned, the hard way, years ago.............not to involve him.

He, because he loves me, wants to come aboard and " fix" everything.........without understanding the day to day workings. You can share some things about your work life.........but do not over involve your partner or expect them to guide you through professional uncharterd waters. I trust my husband to know when to relieve his stress and when to confront his superiors.

I will be his sounding board......helping him to choose the appropiate phrases, and lingo.........I can not go and do his welding, I can not carry his load, I can not do his job. I trust, my hubby, to be my sounding board to a point.......he can offer up ideas in managing people, dealing with superiors............but he can not tell me how to make a better pancake!

Actually you do not separate the two your personal life from your professional life. Your professional life is one in the same because you want to live a whole life with balance. You want to live a life that you can flow from personal to professional.

Live a life full of value, standards and principle. Along with knowing you are a deciplined person you will be a success in your life at home and within your career field as a professional.

It is becoming much more difficult because privacy issues for professionals are becoming an issue.

I've done this. I worked in management for over 20 years. Many of the experiences I was introduced to were stressful.

There was a gate in which all employees entered. When I crossed the gate to enter the job site, I became a manager leaving all personal aspects of my life on the other side of the fence. When I crossed the gate to go home, I left the manager behind and became my other self and only thought and dealt with the attributes of my personal life.

I never talk about work outside of the work environment. I have told my family to not ask me about my day. There were times when work really stressed me out and some of the stress leaked to the personal side of the gate.

For that, my car was my sanctuary for cursing people out and talking to myself to get the frustrations out. By the time I arrived home, I had gotten all the frustration out by talking to myself about it and didn't bring it into the house. You have to become two personalities.

Another thing, I never mixed co-workers with my family. I totally trusted one person in the company to become my friend. All the others I interacted during work or work related events. It worked for me.

Hope that helps.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
