Note: For stubborn oil and grease stains, a pressure washer and a degreaser may be needed. Put on boots, gloves and safety goggles with a respirator before handling the muriatic acid.

Mix one part acid into four parts water in a plastic sprinkling can. Wet the concrete surface once again and soak any surrounding grass or shrubs. Then sprinkle the acid solution onto the concrete. It should bubble (figure B) on contact.

Allow the acid solution to etch for 20 to 30 minutes to neutralize the concrete's alkalinity, and then remove the acid with a broom and plenty of water. Let the concrete dry for a least 48 hours, and sweep off any residual concrete powder. Now you can begin applying a concrete stain (figure C) with a roller or brush in any style or pattern you desire.

If a second coat is needed, wait 24 hours between coats. By properly cleaning and preparing your patio for staining, you'll spruce up your drab surface, and you'll be able to admire your artistry for years to come. I have many years in the building trades, but I have to point you here This site seemed to have the best step by step, with all of the pertinent info. I only copied what’s germain to your question, though the site contains more. ********************************************************************************* 1- Where can I apply Acid Stain?

Acid Stain can be applied to any concrete, polymer overlay and some self leveling products that have a cementitious base, including most interior and exterior floors, counter tops and walls. 2 - Floor preparation. All floors need to be cleaned and prepared before Acid Stain application.

Exterior Floors: Concrete should be cured (at least 28 days). Do not acid wash prior to acid staining! Surface contaminants such as curing agents, glue, sealers, waxes, paint, oil, dirt, water repellents and anything that will prevent stain penetration must be removed.

There are several steps in cleaning an exterior floor. Always degrease surface, TSP. ( Tri Sodium Phosphate) is a good cleaner, degreaser and easy to use detergent.

Rinse well after degreasing and check for water absorption, if there any area where the water beads, treat again. And re do as necessary. After degreasing pressure wash or clean by mechanical means.

Once the floor is thoroughly clean and grease free allow to dry and proceed with Acid Stain application Interior Floors: Concrete should be cured (28 days). Do not acid wash prior to acid staining. Degrease floor and check for water absorption, water beads indicate the presence of a contaminant and floor must be re treated until water is readily absorbed by concrete. When rinsing and cleaning an interior floor use a wet vac to avoid run off and to prevent staining adjacent areas. After degreasing clean floor with by mechanical means if possible e.g. Shot blasting, sanding, or with a floor buffer.

Rinse one more time to remove dust and dirt, mask all walls with tape and paper and any object you may want to protect,. And proceed with staining. Sources: http://www.concrete-stain.com/Concrete_stain_pages/Staining_Concrete.html .

What can be done about a neighbor hosing off his concrete patio daily into my yard, 4 dogs.

Concrete statues are resilient to weather conditions while providing the finishing touches to make any garden or outdoor area. Staining a concrete statuary will help preserve it from the harsh elements while helping it blend in with the nature surrounding it. Prep the concrete.

Remove all waxes, glues or other contaminants from the concrete. Scrub it clean with water and detergent to remove grease and oils. Trisodium Phosphate is recommended.

Allow to dry. Apply a concrete stain prep, letting it soak for up to 10 minutes. Do not allow this to dry.

Add more as needed. Remove stain prep by scrubbing and rinsing thoroughly with clean water. Apply your selected concrete stain.

If you are diluting it, be sure to use exact measurements to maintain a constant color. You can apply the stain with a brush or sprayer depending on the size of the statuary. Allow to dry completely.

Apply a sealer generously to protect the stain and maintain color integrity. Apply three coats for maximum ... more.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
