As far as parents are allowed to "go" in disciplining their children. There are clear laws around child abuse and neglect. Those are the limits... period.
In Korea, where I teach, many schools are allowed to beat their students. At my school, we don't do that. My classroom has a 'three strike, you're out policy'.
If I see a kid out of line or openly disrespecting me, I tell them 'that's one. Three, you're out'. If my kids get kicked out of the classroom, I make them stand outside, nose to the wall, with their arms above their head.
I like the punishment because its physical, it hurts a bit, but I'm not beating them. I feel that thats important.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
