How long can you keep a Duck,(that was fresh & home frozen), before cooking? Is it safe after 18momths being frozen?

Strictly, no; the USDA would tell you to throw it out. Practically, yeah, it's probably safe, but it's probably freezer burned to the point of inedibility. The risk is small, but real, and there's no point in taking it over a freezer-burned duck.

If it smells OK and you're not in frail health, the odds are actually pretty good that it's fine. It may not taste all that good, and if you do get sick the USDA will say "I told you so", but the chances of food poisoning are fairly low. If it passes the sniff test, they're even lower.

I can't tell you what to do here. Like I said, the USDA is an unequivocal "no", but they err on the side of safety. If you're worried, chuck it; it's not worth worrying about.

If you're hungry, and not too worried, enjoy.

Well....I have taken the chance & had some my meal this evening! It was well sealed & airtight; no smell!....Tasted ok!...But I won't leave it so long in the freezer next time! (I wasn't aware of it being only 6months or so freezer time!)We live & learn!

Freezer burn eventually occurs as a result of oxidation (i.e. Air getting into the frozen item). And that is usally due to bad packaging and an unsealed wrap.

The food is actually safe to eat - it won't hurt you - but it may not taste perfect.

Yes, it was completely airtight (purchased at Waightrose/Fresh! )I think it will have to go though...shame after all my cooking! Thank you for responding!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
