How old is Bloomington, Illinois?

Bloomington is a city located in Illinois, and is next to the city of Normal. Both cities are home to the Illinois Wesleyan University, Illinois State University and the Heartland Community College. The city was founded in 1857 and currently has a population of about 80,000.

The area of Bloomington existed in the 1520s, and was first occupied by the Kickapoo people before the arrival of the Euro-American settlers. The settlement was first called Keg Grove, and then later renamed Blooming Grove and officially known as Bloomington in 1830. As a city, Bloomington is officially 154 years old, though its history goes back much further.

There are many historic sites in Bloomington, and you can find out more about the history of the city as well as some information on the city’s early settlers and founders.
