How respectful do christians need to be of others who follow different religions or do not believe in God?

Absolutely! If you can show God that you have never sinned, then He is legally obligated to allow you into heaven. HOWEVER: Make sure you understand the question!

How do you KNOW if you have never sinned? If you have EVER violated your own conscience, or done something that you felt guilty over, or done something for which you were ashamed of yourself, then you are guilty! - Have you ever told a lie?

(If so, that would make you a liar.) - Have you ever taken anything that wasn't rightfully yours to take? (If so, that would make you a thief). - If you have ever lied or stolen anything, do you like it when you are lied to, or if YOUR stuff is stolen?

(if you don't like it happening to YOU, then this double standard is called "hypocrisy".) - Have you ever looked at another person with sexual thoughts or lust? (Jesus said that this is the same as adultery in God's eyes). - Have you ever been angry or hateful towards another person?

(Jesus said that God sees this as murder.) If, in the honesty of your own heart, you had to admit that you have been guilty of these things, that would make you a "lying, thieving, hypocritical, adulterous murderer!" (*OUCH*) Now, if you STILL think you are good enough to enter heaven without God's forgiveness through Jesus Christ, you can add "holier-than-thou" with a "self-righteous" attitude. NOW you become a "self-righteous, holier-than-thou hypocrite, who is a lying, thieving, adulterous murderer!" (*DOUBLE OUCH*) And I didn't even touch on such things as disobedience to parents, having a bad attitude when you DO obey, having rude or inappropriate thoughts, using rude or inappropriate language, and attitudes such as envy, jealousy, greed or stinginess! You may look all very nice from another person's point of view, but remember, God not only judges you by your actions, but He also judges you by your words, your attitudes, your thoughts, and even the motives in your heart!

Yes, darling. Many - not all - of them believe that you're pretty much going to hell, regardless of how good you are, unless you believe as they do. Many Christians, specifically fundies, believe that the only way to avoid hell is to be "saved," as they call it, and they go on about how people are saved by faith, not works, so they really do believe that someone like Gandhi is burning in hell right now because he wasn't a Christian.

It is true that most Muslims and Christians say that there's room in heaven for the good non-believer, but many also believe that rejecting their god to follow another or none at all is a terrible sin...bad enough to be beyond redemption. (See the description of "shirk" in :)'s answer). The answer username_hidden gave is also true - if you've never heard of Jesus, Catholics don't expect you to have psychically connected to him, but it doesn't apply to many people since most non-Christians have heard of Jesus and continued not to be Christian...and they view that badly.

Overall, their ideas of heaven are pretty exclusive. The afterlife envisioned in Hinduism and Buddhism is very different than the "judgment" model of Christianity and Islam, so that's not an issue - for them, being good, regardless of your beliefs, has a good effect in your future lives, and they tend to think that all paths are valid as long as they are sincerely followed. I don't know enough about Judaism to comment on their beliefs regarding the afterlife, and I don't really know anything much at all about Taoic religions, either.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
