Here are a ten games for you... I find that some of the outstanding classic board games develop acute thinking and problem solving skills. One doesn’t have to buy expensive "educational" board games. Many of the classics are at least as educational; and, the fact they have withstood the test of time tells you the fun-quotient is there as well.

I would pick up some traditional word games like Scrabble or Boggle. There are some other language games that might not seem educational, but if they get kids thinking, then that qualifies them in my opinion. Scattergories or Apples to Apples.

For learning about money, there's the old stand-by, Monopoly. There's also the Kiyosaki Cash Flow game, which I think is very good, but also very expensive. For strategy, how about chess or Go?

And not to neglect the artists in the group, how about Pictionary? Trivial Pursuit tends to be one of the more expensive games, I think, but I'm still a fan. I also really like Munchkin, but I'm having trouble making an argument for that being educational.

Still, I had to mention it! Just thinking about it, I'm jealous of these kids already. I wanna play some board games!

There's a few that I used to play... and still do! I used to play Chronology, it's a history game where you have to know events in relative order. The object is to build a time line of many different historical events, and you do this by putting events in order, without looking at the date (you have to correctly answer that it came before your earliest event, after your last event, or between two events).

Last but not least, Apples to Apples is a great game if you want to teach your kids vocabulary, and about famous persons (at least I think so).

There is a junior version, which I myself have never played, but from what I'm told, it is the exact same as the adult version in play, but the cards are more geared towards kids, and I would assume easier to read/work with. You'll have to make the call for your own children. I hope that helps you out!
