It would be better to use a disk scrubber to erase the contents of the hard drive... Most web browsers default to saving cookies, passwords, form data and other personal information. The feature is helpful when users don’t want/like to reenter passwords, but not so great when the computer is changing owners and/or when it’s a public computer (e.g. Internet cafe, library, etc.). To view/change how Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox: Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options -> Content -> AutoComplete Mozilla Firefox: Tools -> Options -> Privacy Opera and Apple’s Safari web browser also have similar security options.

There are a lot of cleaners that will help delete cookies, passwords and other personal information from a computer, but there’s a good chance that they won’t be able to track down every scrap of data. Reformatting a hard drive may be enough to keep a regular user from seeing your old files, but it’s not considered to be very secure. Using a specialized disk scrubber is a much better option.

One free open-source disk scrubber is Darik’s Boot and Nuke ("DBAN" for short). You can download a version that runs from a CD/DVD, floppy or even a USB flash drive: http://www.dban.org/ (Before you run DBAN, be sure to back up any files you want to keep. ) If you prefer a commercial disk scrubber, here are a few possibilities: http://active-eraser.com/ http://www.iolo.com/ds/3/ http://whitecanyon.com/wipedrive-erase-hard-drive.php http://whitecanyon.com/erase-hard-drive-mac.php The disk scrubber will offer the option of scrubbing the hard drive multiple times by writing random data over the entire disk.

This makes data recovery much harder because sifting through the "noise" to get to the real data is very difficult. Other options include reusing the hard drive in an external drive case and installing a new drive in the computer, or even selling the computer without a hard drive. Good luck, .

You can transfer all your stuff to the new one. But if you just have a single disk in it better to just spend $50-$100 (depending on disk size) to put in a new blank drive and hold onto yours. Sources: newegg.com .

1 You can go into your control panel and remove/uninstall all programs. However, that will NOT get any of the information - including your personal info like name, C C numbers, S S numbers, off of your hard drive. You need to have the hard drive wiped by a professional.

2 You can reformat the hard drive. The old way would have been to type format C:/S at the DOS prompt. If you plan to sell it with an operating system you would then reinstall Windows on the hard drive and give the buyer the discs and serial number.

You can also sell it formatted but without an operating system. Many folks like to install their own such as Linux or some other system. If you don't know how to reformat the drive, then any computer service should be able to do it for you.

3 "Reformatting" the hard drive doesn't really remove all the data, either; that's an old wive's tale. Any computer expert can still retrieve all the data. The is no way to really remove all the information from your computer except by removing the hard drive and torching into a lump of metal!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
