I bought a modem that already had a network setup on it and cant figure out the network key for my laptop any suggestion?

You're confused. A modem does not have a "network setup on it". A modem provides access for exactly one machine.

If that machine happens to be a router, *then* multiple computers can use the internet access it provides.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
