Everybody dreams... and if you do not remember them is because your sleep is very deep or as it has been suggested that if your dream is resolved to completion while you sleep you will not remember it because a part of your brain tries to make sense of it before you wake up. When it is a light sleep you get startled and wake up as the dream is your life and when you wake up you might be sad or wishing to be back in it. I always remember the dreams that end without resolution, wondering the "what if?".
Remembering sad dreams of people that were in my life still missing them, forever. Always happens around their death anniversary or their birthday and I am blaming my subconscient for thinking of them and hanging on to their memories..
That you don't remember the dreams never means you don't have them. You are repeatedly dreaming, going in and out of REM state, while you sleep. If you were not, you'd be too psychotic to be here asking about it.
You'd be off spraying some workplace with bullets and then shooting yourself. Seriously. Researchers have found that a human who is prevented from dreaming goes very crazy in all the wrong ways.
That said, simply tell yourself before you sleep, after you're lying in bed, "I will remember my dreams tonight. " Have a notebook and working pen by the bed for you to write down the dream when you come out of it. You need only re-program yourself..
