Here's the real answer if you don't own the CD and have downloaded it from a third party site, you're kind of out of luck about importing it into ITunes because it violates the International Recording Artists. Recently passed acts such as the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) were created to keep Internet service providers from the responsibility of copyrighted material posted and distributed by subscribers.

However, there are ways to still do this. First, if you know someone who owns the CD it can be imported into your ITunes directory, Another way is if you go to a library and borrow their CD, since you now have the original CD it can be imported into your ITunes. Lastly, if you buy the CD you can import the song into your ITunes or if you buy the digital rights through ITunes then you own the DRCA and this is the only way that doesn't violate International Recording Artists of America. There are otherwise to record the songs such as someone gave you the CD, or you bought the CD from a used CD store, etc.As long as you own the CD you are not in any way infringing on the law and you will be okay.

Any other way such as downloading a file through a file sharing network such as Limewire, Frostwire, or any other peer to peer file sharing network and you are in violation of the DMCA and can be prosecuted. Just be careful as to what you do, I'm not condoning piracy but it is running wildly rampant. Major site sharers have already been prosecuted.
