I have 12 crocheted placemats that have been "blocked" or starched heavily for use. Does anyone know the process? They are in need of cleaning and will loose the stiffness when I wash them.

1 If they are white, Put them in the washing machine with Tide bleach, and get them nice and white again. They will look like rags when you take them out so don't PANIC...at the grocery get a box of STARCH mix it for heavy.. Put each place mat in one at a time until they are soaked. (if you will measure them and cut wax paper into each size before you wash them you can stretch each one out to its reg.

Size and pin with strait pin on each corner) gently squeeze out excess and put on wax paper to dry. They should come out like new. I do my mother and Grandmothers dollies like this.

Enjoy .

2 By the way, you are very lucky to have those beautiful placemats. At Christmas and Holiday you can put gold or silver lame homemade mats under them, and for spring and summer pink, yellow and blue, there are so many things you can do with them I think it is wonderful to have something so nice. Betty .

5 Pin them to the wax paper, I put mine on my Island in the kitchen and stick the pin into the wood strait up through the corner loop of the place mat or whatever, tiny pin hole is easy to cover with cleaning and wax on counter top. Use ironing board, or any flat cardboard or surface.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
