I have a LCD display with DVI-D input and a laptop with a VGA output, is there any [cheap] way to connect them?

The display is a Dell 3007WFP and only has one type of input. As far as I know, the display can down convert to max resolution of 1280x1024 when attached to a DVI-I output. Could I potentially buy a VGA to DVI-I converter and then plug the display into that?

Maybe, but not if you're right that it's DVI-D. If your display only has DVI-D input, and not DVI-I, then it simply won’t take an analog signal--and VGA is analog. So you would need a frame buffer which took the analog signal and digitized it.

This would be expensive. However, you say that the display can accept a DVI-I signal, which suggests that you’re not entirely clear on the display’s connector. I’d suggest comparing its pins with the diagrams on Wikipedia.

I’ve not seen any purely DVI-D monitors, so I’m guessing yours might in fact be DVI-I like most of them are. If that’s the case, you can get a VGA to DVI-I (or DVI-A) adaptor for under $20. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
