I have an AVI file that is too large to put on a 700 mb cd-r disc. Is there any way to cut it in half? Or a larger disc?

I wanted to download this file on a cd-r, but it's too large (800 mb). Can I break it down as it exists, or am I stuck with it that size? If I am, do they make any discs with more space?(I have it on an HP laptop)Thanks!
