I made a purchase with my debit card and I no longer have that card. I need to return the item I purchased how will I recieve my refund?

It would depend on the store's policy for returns. A receipt for the item is always a good thing to have. But without the original card, it would be hard for them to put the refund back on the card because most modern POS systems would just have you swipe your card for the return, like you do for a purchase, and the return would show up as a credit in your bank account.

Maybe Costco does return cash for debit card purchases. But most places I have worked have a pretty strict refund policy when it comes to cash. Especially on high ticket items like jewelry you purchased.

Check with the place you bought it from. They may give you cash back, put the returned amount on another card, or just send you a corporate check.

It depends on what bank or type of card you are using. If it was through a checking account it will most likely just be returned into the account. If it was a prepaid card I think it's a lost cause.

As long as you have the receipt they should give you cash back. If you don't have the receipt you will probably get a store credit.

May be they can give you the cash...looks like the only solution to me. Anniversary gift ideas.

Actually-- a debit card, when run as debit, is considered a cash purchase. I worked the return counter at Costco for 4 years and purchases made on a debit card were returned as cash. Also everytime I have bought something at Lowes or home depot on a debit card, the return has been cash.

But you must have you receipt or a store credit will be issued.
