In my opinion the best thing to do is to watch these playoffs and see who you like. I'll give you lots of help and tell you about each series: Vancouver (1) and L. A Kings (8) : Vancouver finished #1 in the league with the best record, but is losing 3-0 against the King in the first round (best of 7); although Vancouver is missing one of their best players.
New York Rangers (1) and Ottawa Senators (8): a matchup of great offense (Ottawa) and great defense (New York). This series has been getting heated, and New York is leading the series 2-1. Boston Bruins (2) and Washington Capitals (7): The capitals are coming in against the defending Stanley Cup champions the underdogs.
They barely made it in the post season and they have been doing a fantastic job staying in it. It's been a surprisingly physical series, I believe boston alone had almost 70 hits in their last game. Boston is leading the series 2-1 with their next game being played in Washington.
St. Louis Blues (2) and San Jose Sharks (7) : St. Louis's amazing defense has been the story of this franchise this season. They literally came out of nowhere and almost won the Presidents Trophy (best record out of all teams). San Jose has been what some call a 'disappointment', they have all of the tools to be a top tier team and they barely got in the playoffs.
It's been a great, fantastic defensive battle, very physical as well. Blood is boiling in this series, and it's great to watch if your a good NHL fan. St. Louis is winning the series 2-1.
Florida Panthers (3) and New Jersey Devils (6) : Personally I feel one of the most boring out of all series. Florida's first division championship, and the Devils have some good offensive tools and a sure to be, if not already hall of fame goalie. The series is tied at one.
Again, lots of people aren't paying too much to either team, not much going on. Phoenix Coyotes (3) and Chicago Blackhawks (6) : This series has had all fans on the edge of their seats. After getting their offensive playmaker and captain Toews, lots of people (including myself) had counted out Phoenix.
Both games played thus far Phoenix has been up by one goal, only for Chicago to score within 15 seconds left in the game to tie it and force overtime. The series is tied at 1-1, with the next game going to a very loud United Center (watch the national anthem, it's unlike anything you'll ever hear). The last 2 are arguably the best: Nashville Predators (4) and Detroit Red Wings (yay ^_^) (5) : Been a Detroit fan all my life, ever since I was born they have made playoffs making it the longest active streak in all of professional sports.
Usually in the playoffs Detroit has had Nashville's number, but this series has turned out to be the most evenly matched. Nashville's recent pickups make them a very legitimate contender, and have their word cut out for them playing a strong and experienced Red Wings team. Currently, through great starts to the game and amazing goaltending, Nashville is leading the series 2-1.
It's been a physical series, as these teams are starting a fun to watch rivalry if your a hockey fan. Great and emotional fans for both teams, this one everyone is predicting to go to game 7. Pittsburgh Penguins (4) and Philadelphia Flyers (5) : Where to start...So many people, I'd probably guess the majority of them deep down thought that Pittsburgh was the heavy favorite not only to make it to the Cup, but to win it all.
You got super stars such as Crosby (Goes by Crysbaby as well ;) ) and Malkin, and a team that has experienced goal tending, good physical presence, and seemingly all of the tools for a championship team. Game 1 was in Pittsburgh, and after leading 3-0, the Flyers made an epic comeback, forced overtime and won 4-3. Game 2 Pittsburgh was winning 3-1, only to be upset yet again and lose 8-5 (I believe?) to them.
Game 3 was...interesting and fun to watch, some would call it. The Penguins lost their 3rd straight game 8-4, and half of the team was gone by penalties, fights, and misconducts. This is almost a must-see, and the fact that it's usually on at the same time as the wings game (like game one was) is killing me!
There are other notable teams that didn't make it thats certainly worth noting: Anaheim is a great team to follow, they have a great combo of experienced players and young players that are really good. Buffalo is a team that most thought they'd see in the playoffs instead of Washington, with Ryan Miller in goal (helped USA get a silver medal, certainly one of the main reasons they did). They have some young, talented offense as well.
I could go on about other teams, there are certainly out there but a good start is just to focus and watch these playoffs, because most of the teams are solid enough that you'll see them next year (Nashville, Philly, Red wings, etc). Hope this helps! :).
I live in CT and have had this same problem as you picking a favorite team. For me, since there's no NHL team in CT. I found myself bouncing back and forth.
I went to a Capitals game a while back when I was younger and met the players at their practice. Ever since I've been a die hard Caps fan. Go to a practice of there's for free and meet some of the players.
Just search Capitals Ketler Iceplex and you can get the address. Nothing better than meeting the players to have them become your favorite team. AND you live near Washington D.
C which makes it even better. I would die to live there! You can go to some of their games, meet the players, and just "Rock the Red" as they say.
Where as if you root for say LA, it will be hard to invest in going to the games and really supporting a team.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
