I was asked to play a house gig-I said yes - a few days later, I learn that this is actually a competition for the gig - should I do it?

I wasn't given the accurate information - choosing me might harm a long-term friendship with the other player. " Ask yourself do you play for fun or are you looking for a job in music? If it is the former you can turn down opportunities and it doesn't really matter.

If it is a job you are looking for any chance to get new fans should be taken seriously. Do you think that you were deliberately mislead, or may this have been a misunderstanding? If you believe that were lied to you may want to back off on principle.

Someone like that may also lie about the benefits of winning. . .

I suspect if this person is a long term friend he or she may be fine with a friendly competition. When musicians battle everybody may win. Any bands that do well will get attention and possibly fans even if they do not actually win a prize.

If you are local bands playing to the same type of audience chances are you will be placed up against each other sooner or later anyway. Tell your friend what happened and ask his/her opinion. Make your decision to proceed based on their opinion ballanced with the answers above.

The thing to watch for is if you either a) have to pay for the competition, or b) get your friends into the club so that you can win. In either case the club is getting you to pay for his club, which isn't the way it works.. and if there's a competition between you and your mate then work out if it worth the deal... or team up and win between you.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
