I was never married to my child's father. Do I have to ask his father for permission to change his last name?

I was never married to my child's father. Do I have to ask his father for permission to change his last name? I live in PA and I am not sure what the law here states or how to go about changing my son's last name.

Can I only change his last name or can I also change his middle name too? I have a social security card but not a birth certificate as of right now. Asked by singlemom55 9 months ago Similar questions: married child's father permission change Politics & Law > Law.

If the father has supported him all these years then, it would be nice. If the father gave you no support, spend $50 and have him beaten well and tryly.

If you never married his father, then you have to right to change your sons name to whatever you wish to, without his permission. However, if he pays support, has visitation, and is a good father, then I think it would be nice to dicuss this with him. But, if you change his name, then it HAS to legally be changed on his social security card, and they are a nightmare to try to deal with!

You could put on the birth certificate (as the mother and only one present when the child is born) whatever name you wanted, including Mr. Best Answerer Askville. Once the birth certificate is turned in, then you must petition (thru courts) to change it. But if he (whoever the sperm donor was) isn't on the birth certificate (as a parent), then his showing up in court to contest this change might be irrelevant.

You are going to have to go to court to change his name no matter who or what his father is. If his fathers name is on the birth certificate and is the child's legal last name on his social security card you will need his fathers permission. You need an attorney or Legal Aid.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
