I had a similar problem recently w/ a refurbished Sharp LCD I bought from a third party. I submitted a request to the Sharp Customer Support - they sent me the name of a couple repair centers with a reference number. I brought the TV into the closest center and it was fixed within a week.My TV was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay for it.

Before you purchase a new one, better have your TV checked first. Service centers and repair shops can turn that TV back on, that's if the problem is repairable. After all, you can use a cheap test equipment to know where the error started.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
