If one does not have a body, but exists as a digital consciousness, is one still human?

It all depends on which is the correct of two suppositions:Number one: If no energy essence, spirit/soul form exists and depending on the definition of human, then yes, digital consciousness while remaining whats called human is not only possible but a surety. Number two: If an energy, spirit/soul does exist in biological creations; and if that is whats called human; then the answer is no as the generative essence of the 'spirit', could never be transferred into something beyond the original intent of this 'Source'. Just one persons take on it and thank you Simone for this intelligent and challenging question.

I assume the "digital" in your question refers to an image on a computer, for instance, and that the image is governed by programs that fit the human experience. I also assume your usage of "human" is after the fact of us having been in a physical, human body. All things being relative, we would feel human and act human, limited only by the thoroughness of the "program" used.As 3-dimensional illusions can be programmed, and also the interaction of two solid forms can be duplicated in simulations, then we will appear to exist in a 3-dimensional world.

If pain can be programmed, we will actually feel pain. The reason I think this way, is because I believe matter is an illusion, or mostly an illusion, as scientists still haven't been able to determine the smallest particle, but have, instead, found a lot of empty space within atoms. I think pain is an illusion, because sometimes when I press on a tender area, I feel a sharp jab elsewhere in my body.

This quesiton presupposes that you currently have a body and do not exist as digital consciousness. Why do you believe that to be the case?

If by human is meant the synergistic composite of body, mind and soul, then by definition, no, one cannot be human without the body.

Consciousness = having experienceof seeing, hearing, feeling, pain, thinking.

No. Unfortunately, to "shut off" a human would be to murder him. On the other hand, to shut off annoying cellphone calls or text messages (id est, a type of "digital consciousness") is just a click of a button away.

That's so...Star Trek. But if you *started* as human, I don't think you lose your humanity.

It depends on how it is transferred. The program must be a case only, where your mind takes complete control. Nothing must be changed, and something indeed must be transferred.

If these conditions are met, then it would be possible.

No, - what ptosis said...meanless text to make hubpages happy...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
