Many of the fairy tales as told by the Grimm brothers were folk tales gathered from throughout Western and Eastern Europe. Each generation would add to the elaborate nature of the tale, enhancing the inherent warnings. Tales of Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella blessed the piety and gentility of true ladies in the face of disastrous circumstances while tales such as The Little Mermaid were a warning to daring to defy one's own nature and holy law.
What tales were true and what tales were not? In all likelihood, a kernel of truth existed amongst every single fairy tale, embellished by bards, storytellers, kings and peasants alike.
I'd have to say Cinderella because sometimes you can find happily ever after even if you have had a rough life.
