If somebody volunteers their service to a non-profit organization, can the time spent be quantified and tax deductible?

I'm just wondering if instead of donating money to a charity, one donates their time and works for the charity, if that can somehow be tax deductible. Asked by Fatty12 48 months ago Similar questions: volunteers service non profit organization time spent quantified tax deductible Business > Taxes.

You cannot deduct for your volunteer time. You can deduct travel expenses and other out-of pocket expenses related to your volunteer work.

Basically, no You need to donate cash or materials for something to become a deduction. Time is not money, when it comes to charity.

No. Services and Time Are Not To Be Quantified...Only Goods It doesn't seem fair, does it. You should check with the charity in question, but there is just too much opportunity for people not to be fair and honest with self-reporting of their hours, etc..

No I'm spending all week in a tax preparation class and we just talked about this today, no you cannot deduct your time. For example if you were a web site designer you can't spend time making a site for a church and then deduct what you would normally charge for a site. Or if you are a painter, you can not paint a picture for the church and deduct $1,200 for it.

You can only deduct the cost of the paint and canvas.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
