Pls ignore Mr. I, he's going by the dozens of 3-rd rate 4th grade biology class inheritance charts on the Internet. In reality, if you have some question about paternity, your situation probably does not fall into the mainstream processes that *is* adequately explained in those colorful charts. If you're coming here, you're probably in the small other group of folks with an anomaly. In this case those charts are just going to stir up trouble!
You see if there is some question about paternity, the situations are roughly thus:(1) About 30% of the time, you've gotten this info second or third-hand, and even primary sources can be confused about their blood type.(2) About 3 to 6% of the time, actual retests show that the blood-typing labs make a MISTAKE about 1 to 2% of the time. The most common mistake is a weak clotting response, which results in a type "O" determination, when it's actually a weak A or B response. And since there are three blood tests involved (ma, pa, babby), the chance of at least ONE mistake multiplies up to 3 to 6%(3) A bit under 1% of the time, the blood type genes do NOT function as in the nice charts-- either a gene can repair itself, turning from an effective O to an A or B, or a gene can swap or break, turning an A or B into an O, or some other gene suppresses the blood type gene-- you see about 95% of DNA does not code for anything useful, but instead is just junk or filler or spacer or it decides to jump out and surppress a real gene.
So if I add those up, a goodly 37% of people asking about this do NOT benefit from the hundreds of neat little genetic charts out there. How about we not cause a lot of suspicion, wife-beatings, child-beatings, divorces, honor-killings and/or murders? Just suggestin'.
