If there was a lottery to "pull the switch" in the most egregious death penalty cases, would you buy a ticket?

Pull the switch, push the needle..... whatever you get the idea. Pick your own dark scenario, then tell me if you'd buy a ticket? No, I'd buy 100 I talk the talk, I'm willing to walk the walk. Sources: aspirations to Lord High Executioner .

Absolutely I believe that there is a place for the death penalty. We have to be very, very judicious about using it, because it's absolutely final and there is no going back on it. The standard of evidence for it must be set very, very high.

But if it is possible to achieve that level (and I'm not convinced that it is), then it has its place. The sense of vengeance is very strong in people. Some people are scared of death, and if it deters people from committing crimes, then it can be worth it.

But only if it's absolutely perfectly applied. And because of that level, I'd want to push the button myself. I don't want other people to do morally difficult things because I'm unwilling to do it myself.

If somebody is going to die on my behalf, I want to review the evidence myself and then pull the lever when I'm satisfied that a terrible crime has been committed and that this is the person responsible.

In the most "egregious" cases I definitely would like to see the switch pulled or the needle pushed, better yet would be a punishment more fit for a crime! If the murderer made his victems suffer, he or she should be made to suffer too. Why quick and easy?

I took so long answering this because I am not so sure about wanting to actually do this ... but then again, why not, if the person was definitely guilty of an egregious crimes --- he would deserve the death penalty.

No I have never understood why we kill people to show that killing people is wrong. Aside from that, there are so many cases where an innocent person was put to death. Even if the person was convicted of an iron clad case that warranted the death penalty, I would take no pleasure in taking their life.

It doesn't alter the crime, bring back the victim, or keep people from committing future crimes that result in the death penalty. I say this as a survivor of abuse who has struggled for many years with great anger against my abuser; as terrible as the anger is, I would never choose to resolve the issue by wishing him dead by my own hand. Creating more hurt doesn't make hurt go away.

Yuck no. That strikes me as being utterly ghastly. I can imagine that a victim might want to pull/press/flick the switch, but I don't believe it is at all healthy for a member of the public to be so enthusiastic about killing someone that they would pay money for a chance.

That's creepy. Sources: Me .

Death Penalty. For it or against it?! " "Are you FOR OR AGAINST DEATH penalty?

" "Do you believe in the death penalty? Why or why not? " (14 answers).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
