If you could listen to only one music artist/group for the rest of your life, who would you choose and why?

I'd appreciate answers with some thought and explaination of choice. Also, if you can provide any links to their work, that would be great, but not necessary. I hope you all have a great weekend :0) Asked by marissa 51 months ago Similar questions: listen music artist group rest life choose Entertainment > Music.

The Corsairs! I would listen to the Corsairs. Their work spans from silly to serious to haunting and back again, I love sea shanties, and I love their singing.

Also, since learning about them, I’ve not tired of them. That’s eight or nine years of enjoying them as a group while I cycled through other music groups like nobody’s business. I always come back to them and every time I do I fall in love all over again.

I’ve put a link to their homepage in the "sources" area. You can listen to their music there. Some of my favorites are Mary Ellen Carter, King of the Cannibal Islands, Barrett’s Privateers, The Old Dun Cow, Spanish Ladies, Leaving of Liverpool, Life of a Sailor, Paddy Lay Back, the Clean Song, I would keep going, but I’m worried I’m just going to name them all.

I also like that they are willing to leave their "safe" ground and try crazy new songs like Under the Boardwalk or Kokomo (or Weekend Pirate Blues, but I don’t know which one that is on). So no matter what, I'm not going to get bored as I'll have tons of variety. Plus: I'd be able to drive half my friends wild (I've had a number of roommates who did NOT appreciate this interest of mine).

This is a tough one I love all kinds of music(except Country) from Heavy metal to opera. But if I could ONLY have one. It would be JOSH GROBAN It makes me either think really hard or puts me in a very relaxed state..depending on the song.

I never thought I'd like any songs were alot of thme had lyrics in different languages. Its odd but I still know what they say or mean, because of the feeling the song produces. S music really saved me when my Dad died.

Its extremly entertaining but very inspirational.

The Ever-Changing Chameleon of Rock does it for me! Marissa- great question. I’ve thought about this, and while I have several artists that compete for "favourite" in my heart, I think I’ve narrowed my choice down.

First off, I am a HUGE Beatles fan. I am confident that I know more about them than most people who grew up seeing them and listening to their music when it was new. Plus, I think that Abbey Road was one of the best albums ever made.

Secondly, I’m a HUGE David Bowie fan. I used to spend hours when I was little staring at my dad’s Young Americans album trying to figure out if he was a girl or a boy- I think that’s when I first became intrigued with Bowie. Thirdly, while I’ve become temporarily obsessed with several artists over the years (Fleetwood Mac, REM, EJ, Billy Joel, OK-Go, Ben Folds), the artist that I recently became tuned on to within the last couple of years that has made such a difference to me is Harry Nilsson.

Of course, once I learned that he was the Beatles’ favourite musician, and that he was close with John (and Ringo), it was like the icing on a german chocolate cake-- delicious! So, after much deliberation in my little brain, I’ve got to say Bowie wins. Here’s why: He’s got a very large, yet diverse catalog of music (and that’s not even counting all the movie soundtracks he’s done).

He’s still making music, and I’m guessing he’ll probably continue to do so for at least the next 10 years. Given that approximation, he’ll probably have a catalog spanning about 6 decades, some of which still will probably be "before its time". The man is so talented, it hurts my brain!

Now, I’ve got to admit, listing some of my other fav artists, I realised "crap, I could listen to Ben Folds my whole life and be happy! " Here’s the problem though: Ben’s music is often depressing in nature, and while I love his style and ADORE his piano playing, as with most other 1 (lead)-man groups, everything pretty much sounds the same. I can hear him sing one note and know it’s him, ’ya know?

Bowie and Harry both have/had a range that blows my mind. Anyone who can sing 3. 6 dec3aves is musically blessed, no doubt about it (even if they were to use their powers for evil).

The problem with Harry Nilsson is that he died in ’94 of a heart attack, and while there is still one unreleased album out there, it’s not like he’s gonna be making more records (rather, no new stuff will be put out). Harry Nilsson was very much like John Lennon--they both died before their time, they both were campy and used music to send a message, and there are about 20 different "Best Of" albums out there. (Personally, I can’t stand that because you always end up with the same 5 songs over and over, which becomes rather silly and a strain on your pocketbook if you’re of limited means like myself.

) Bowie’s musical stylings are always changing (although I am wondering if he’s "settled in" as he has with his personal life-- the inevitable bit of becoming older, ’ya know). The only time I didn’t think that Bowie was ahead of everyone else was with his Earthling album, which, for electronic music, still had more heart than most of the synthesized crud out there today. (I’m sorry, but I don’t have much respect for that genre--it’s like anime -- it all just seems the same after awhile.

) Anyhow, thanks again for the question- I think it will be interesting to see what people say. Of course, I think the big thing to remember is that while you might like the latest Kanye West or Justin Timberlake song, the idea is that you'd have to listen to that artist ALL the rest of your life. For some reason, "I'm bringing sexy back....oooh!

" doesn't seem like it will really hold up in even 5 years. That being said, I will always love "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred. Everyone's got to have at least 1 guilty pleasure though, right?

That is a harrrrd one Marissa But I’ll give it my best shot. In 1975 I was working at the American school in Isfahan and sharing an apartment with two crazy American guys. One of them, my boyfriend at the time, was an ex-disc jockey from Sacramento who proceeded to educate me in the "development of American popular music to the present day" (well he was a teacher too!).

One evening, after we had just finished dinner and were sitting around drinking a glass of wine, he put on one of his tapes. The voice that came out of the speakers, a young American female singer and blues guitarist, just blasted me out of my after-dinner reverie. Bonnie Raitt, singing "Angel from Montgomery".

After that, Bonnie was a regular "evening music" feature - I wanted to hear everything she had ever recorded (which at that time only consisted of about 3 albums). A few years later, when I had decided to put down roots in Munich, fate brought me together with a couple of guitarist who were looking for a singer. When we started putting a repertoire together, I went back to my well-battered and well-travelled Bonnie Raitt tapes and picked the two songs that I loved the most: "Angel from Montgomery" and "Love me like a Man".

25 years later, I still sing those in my concerts. Bonnie Raitt is to me a true American hero. Through the alcoholic days of the 60’s and 70’s when she was receiving very little recognition for her music, Bonnie stuck to her guns and arose like a Phoenix out of the ashes in 1990 when the world finally "discovered" her (4 Grammys for "Nick of Time").

Through all of those lean years, she never forgot those less fortunate than herself and the environmental causes so close to her heart. She’s famous now and still fighting for those things she believes in. I have seen Bonnie in concert twice; a few years ago when I was in California, she was playing at the Oakland Paramount and I went to see her with two of my Californian buddies, all 3 of us redheads going to cheer on our favourite redhead.

I sang along, cried at "Angel" and ended up dancing in the aisles. As we were leaving the theatre, one of my friends said "Gee, Val, sorry you had such a rotten evening!" :-0 Last year, Bonnie visited my hometown of Belfast for the first time and my niece Lorraine bought me a ticket as a Christmas present. I sat between my sister Maureen and my niece, all three of us holding hands, transfixed - what an incredible evening.

So, if I had to listen to one artist for the rest of my life, I guess after all that blarney, the answer is actually not so difficult after all. Starting with her earliest recordings "Give it up" and "Takin’ my time" to the wonderful live Album "Road tested" and the beautiful "Silver Lining" and including Ms Raitt’s amazing roster of musical collaborations with greats like John Lee Hooker, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Norah Jones....., I think I’d have enough to keep me busy for a lifetime. When I got around to making my first CD, Bonnie was my inspiration there too and I took the liberty of recording 3 of the songs of hers which have accompanied me through the years.

I would love to meet the lady herself but, as that is probably not likely, I am happy that she continues to give the world (and me!) such great music. (I couldn’t imbed this video from Alison Krauss and Bonnie but please do watch it - it gave me chills! Aw, Bonnie!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8irv4mAYw64 (and this rocker with Norah Jones, Alison Krauss, Keb’ Mo....) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpWtH5Awzdk Angel from Montgomery I am an old woman named after my mother My old man is another child thats grown old If dreams were lightning thunder was desire This old house would have burnt down a long time ago Chorus: Make me an angel that flies from montgomry Make me a poster of an old rodeo Just give me one thing that I can hold on to To believe in this living is just a hard way to go When I was a young girl well, I had me a cowboy He werent much to look at, just free rambling man But that was a long time and no matter how I try The years just flow by like a broken down dam.

Repeat chorus: Theres flies in the kitchen I can hear em there buzzing And I aint done nothing since I woke up today. How the hell can a person go to work in the morning And come home in the evening and have nothing to say. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
