If you had the free time to take up a hobby, what would you choose, and why?

Fencing I have a friend who is in love with the sport and keeps begging me to learn. This past year I must admit that I have found myself interested in the sport because of her constant badgering and overly apparent love for it. However, because I do track and field I don’t have the time or energy to even attempt another sport.

If for some reason I do decide to drop track that’s next on my list.

Ballroom Dancing My husband and I make the time for ballroom dancing, it is a hobby we share. It helps us stay connected to each other and our relationship. We are both very different types of people and we need to have this commonality or we could end up growing apart. It is physical activity, which keeps us healthy.

It is also a great mental exercise which is said to help prevent dementia down the road. And if that wasn't enough - it is fun, social and interesting. We enjoy meeting new people with similar interests and going to ballroom dances and competitions.

Actually since I retired I do have the time and I did find a hobby. I make Rosaries for missions around the world. I can sit and watch TV and just make Rosaries to my hearts content.

Then after I get several made I box them up and send them off to places like Sri Lanka, Ghana, Kenya, India and the Philippines. Sometimes when he is here my grandson will stand there and help me make them and we get to spend some special time doing something together. It is also neat to get the thank you letters from all around the world. My wife has started a scrapbook for me of all the letters I have received from Priests and Nuns along with the little nick knacks and pictures they sometimes send.

At Christmas I get Christmas Cards from just about everywhere imaginable. All in all it’s a very rewarding hobby. Sources: My life, and I'm still not telling you my first name.

Horseback riding I rode horses from about age 6-21. I now live in the city and don't have access to a horse. I would love to buy a horse, rent somewhere to keep him, and ride several days a week.

Horseback riding is one of the best types of relaxation for me. It is a time to wind down, relate to an animal, enjoy nature and get some exercise. Wish I had the time.
