I'll preface my question with a confession: I can't think of two bigger insincere people in politics (my opinion)?

I'll preface my question with a confession: I can't think of two bigger insincere people in politics (my opinion) than Nancy Pelosi and the recent savior of the free world - T. Boone Pickens. That being said - I just heard a news radio report - and admit I didn't hear the whole story - about the both of them being involved in some sort of personal deal with investments (hundreds of thousands of dollars worth) with some alternate energy group.

-- Thus making money off high oil and gas prices - and thus the reluctance on drilling. Please - someone tell me it's true - and not just some crackpot Conservative blog...I admit, I don't have any/all facts - But, God -It would be like winning an Olympic event, for me, if it could be confirmed. You win the Olympics Apparently Nancy Pelosi bought stock in the Pickens company to deliver natural gas and then supports the California bill (Proposition 10) that forces it on California. California will spend 10 Billion on this plan if passed. She stands to make a fortune.

Way to go Nancy. Sources: worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view... .

1 If they had been blacksmiths and had the power ,they would have outlawed automobiles , if they owned high rise buildings -they would outlaw single story structures ,they invest in something and then ruin the competition with laws, judges, regulations etc. Machiavelli would have been proud. I hope that says more (good bad or indifferent) about human nature than Conservative or liberal motive.

2 That's kind of crackpotty. Pelosi's got all sorts of dirt, but none of it is "muawahahaha I will make gas prices higher. " That's just kind of a dumb plan.

There are lots of reasons to dislike Pelosi, but opposition to offshore drilling isn't one of them. Offshore drilling would bring our gas prices down by about 10 or 20 cents, but it'd take about 15 years before it'd happen. You'd save about twice as much if you took Obama's advice and kept your tires inflated properly.

If you really think we need to be drilling offshore, your frustration would be better aimed at the President, since it took him seven and a half years to revoke the executive order banning offshore drilling. That executive order was put in place by another Republican, the first President Bush.

Even the Washington Post, which today ticked off some myths employed by opponents of offshore drilling, still conceded that “the strongest argument against drilling is that it could distract the country from a pursuit of alternative sources of energy. ”Both campaigns have shifted gears to put energy issues at the forefront. But why has drilling, of all things, taken the leading role?

Washington Post:For Democrats, more drilling is a detour. Higher oil and gas prices represent a golden opportunity to change America’s energy mix once and for all. More drilling just pushes back the day of reckoning.

Pales replied to post #2: 4 It took 30 yrs to get where we are today. We haven't built a new refinery or power plant since 1979. We use to refine about 9 million barrels & we are down to slightly over 5 million barrels.

Aging & inefficient plants have been shut down. During the same time we've added 30 to 50 million people to this country. 6 or 7 of those 15 years would be court battles to get permission to & drill & build.

We can't even refine our own gasoline anymore. We lack capacity. Bush I's Executive Order & its recision by Bush II, could have been better used a TP.

It meant nothing, because Congress already had a prohibition in place. Federal Statute takes precedence over Executive Orders. They did it to win the enviro votes.

Just the usual window dressing. The next step to off-shore drilling would be for Congress to repeal their drilling ban. Senator Dorgan, D of ND, just devised a streamlined process for Indian Reservations & oil drilling.

3-4 years. "Traffic" - Tim Vanderbilt. This book examines the whole situation.

He writes like an American first, not a Dem or Rep. To focus on President Bush as the sole cause of this situation is to allow it to continue into the next administration.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
