In France, is Napoleon regarded as a hero or villain in the history books of grade school?

As hero, unfortunatelly... Just like Alexander the Great, Julius Cesar and few other great leaders are still presented as great heroes/leaders thus leaving behind the fact that in those campaigns a lot of people died and lot of villages was burnt down. But that might change now. France and Germany, as two countries from EU are developing set of UNIQUE history books covering WWII that would be used in both France and Germany for school systems.

Based on that, Napoleon might be presented from other aspects as well in the future.

While Bonaparte was a conqueror who deeply frightened the crowned heads of Europe, ...he was not in the same league as I believe to a great extent he is a hero, representing the peak of French power. Unlike for that matter, not that I am suggesting that he belongs in their company), he was a genius at war and in administration. He made war against armies, not civilians, and while the wars no doubt brought great suffering, he conducted them with honor.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
