In what states is it illegal to carry a fixed blade knife?

It depends on your local laws - you don't say what country / state you are in. In general, you cannot carry a knife as a weapon but you can carry a knife as a tool, as long as you have good reason for it and it's suitable for the job. Eg.

A Scuba diver can carry a large fixed blade with their equipment & while diving.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
