Is it true that democrats usually increase social programs for the poor and raise taxes on the middle class?

The people that are actually being supported by social programs probably could not afford to pay more in taxes. Economists think that it would hurt the economy to increase taxes of the middle class, which makes up the bulk of the consumer class. Would leave them with less marginal income with which to make purchases needed to keep businesses running.

But I agree that the Bush tax cuts should be allowed to expire, for everyone. And we should return to a more progressive tax scale so that those benefiting most from our system, those making a million a year or more, are contributing a greater share.
