Is it unfair to require kids to memorize and recite something lengthy for English class (and be graded on it)?

Each generation of old people think badly of the youngest generation (well, from when they hit their teens really). They seem to be ill-mannered, thoughtless, selfish etc. Everyone judges by how things were when they were young and we cannot turn the clock back. I agree that many of today's youngsters are lacking much where decency is concerned.

They might not have been brought up to care about others or they might be following peer pressure rather than parental teaching. I was in a supermarket recently, in a very narrow aisle, trying to pass a lady with a trolley who had a small boy with her (about 2 years old). He wanted to head my way rather than the way the woman was going and, when she stopped to lift the lid of a large freezer, he just looked up at me, pushing towards me and said "Oy!

Get out of the way." I mouthed the word "NO!" and continued to walk forwards and, accidentally stepped on his foot. I think the word NO shocked him more than the weight of my foot on his did.

I wonder what he will be like when he is 10 or 20 years older. More youngsters need to hear the word "NO" I'm afraid but there are some beautifully mannered and very helpful young people around as well and we must not forget that.

I know older people were young once. However I am older and I don't like the music which younger people listen to, or the fashions. Well sometimes I do, but no way could I wear them, but this is exactly the way it should be.It's also to do with not understanding, the older generation are ignorant of what is going on in young culture.

It's just a generation difference. I'm sure you don't understand older people and the things they do. The music, fashions, lifestyle they enjoy.

Live and let live I say. We're not all dinosaurs you know. We all deserve respect.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
