Is it worth getting a bassinet for your stroller or is the car seat good enough?

We are thinking about getting a bassinet for our stroller. Is it a waste of money? Is it safe to keep your infant in a car seat for an extended period of time - i.e.

Is it bad for the infant's back to be in a car seat (via a stroller) for a long time. Asked by Anchorman 51 months ago Similar questions: worth bassinet stroller car seat Family.

Not for my money I wouldn't buy half the stuff I bought if I had it to do over again. You use it for so short an amount of time. A good stroller is worth the investment, but the bassinet is probably not going to get used after the baby is a few months old.

If you get a stroller, you might consider a double stroller, or one of the kind that lets you have a kid in front and one sitting or standing on a little platform in back. Even if you only have one child, you will always find a use for the little platform. Good luck and happy parenting!

If you can attach your car seat to your stroller, use it. A bassinet would be great if you have your baby in there all the time and naps will be taken in it, but for normal use, a car seat works fine. I do know that keeping an infant in a car seat or bouncer seat or laying flat on it's back a lot will be a problem, not to the spine, but to the head.

There's been a huge increase in flat head-syndrome since the "back to sleep" program and the increase in babies being kept in car seats and infant seats for extended periods. So, I'm not sure what you mean by "is it bad for the infant's back to be in a car seat (via a stroller) for a long time", but keep it to a minimum either way. Sources: opinion/experience .

I found that my car seat was enough We have a Graco travel system where the car seat snaps into the stroller, and I LOVE it! My daughter is 8 1/2 months old now, and if she falls asleep in the car seat, it’s fabulous to just transfer the car seat to the stroller rather than waking her up. If she’s awake, we just put her in the stroller.

I can’t tell you enough how much I love the Graco travel system, and it’s the best thing I received when I had my little girl (thanks mom and dad)! I would think by purchasing a bassinet you’d be moving your little one in and out of a car seat far too much, and it will get old really fast! Plus, you’ll have to pull the bassinet out each time you use your stroller to either put it in or out of the stroller...far too much work when you have a little one!

Stick with simplicity...those first few months are rough enough as it is! :) Here are some sites with a variety of them: gracobaby.com/products/category.asp?N=40... nextag.com/graco-travel-system/search-html toysrus.com/search/index.jsp?sr=1&f=Taxo... .

It depends entirely on your lifestyle and your stroller... I live in the suburbs and have a stroller that reclines enough for all but a newborn (once a baby is 3 months old, they no longer need to lie completely flat in a stroller), so for me, buying a bassinet attachment for a stroller would be a waste of money. Honestly, we don’t get out that much when our baby is younger than 3 months. We’re all too tired.

The handful of places we do go, we drive, so the baby needs to be in the carseat anyhow. My kids typically outgrow their infant carseat around 6 months (we have long babies), and want to be sitting up in the stroller to see the world when they’re awake at that age, so I think the flexibility of a reclining stroller seat is much more useful than anything you snap in. However, I can imagine that if you live in the city and either go out walking at naptime frequently, or are going to do lots of walking errands with a small baby, purchasing a bassinet might make sense, especially if you plan to have more children or could resell it when your child outgrew it.

However, I would look at purchasing a stroller with a flat or nearly flat recline instead. For your second question of whether it can be bad for a baby to spend a long time in their carseat, the answer is yes. Babies who spend LOTS of time (i.e.

Several hours a day) in their carseat, or any baby-holding device like a swing or stroller are at increased risk for deformational plagiocephaly (a flat spot on their head). Doctors have also found that tiny babies (newborn to 6months old) shouldn’t be left alone to sleep in their carseat because the scrunched up position can make it hard for them to breathe. Here’s a quote from the article on Healthfinder.Gov: "Car seats should only be used for transportation purposes," said Linda White, injury prevention coordinator at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

"Bringing one into the house and leaving a child in it, that is not what they are intended for. " Parents sometimes bring a car seat into the house and leave a baby in it "because they don’t want to disturb them," White said."But you don’t want them the babies to be at that extended angle for a long period of time. We encourage families even when they are traveling to stop often and take the baby out of the car seat.

The extended period of time is the key." I tend to believe that the attachment parenting philosophy is on the right track with this stuff-- babies are meant to be held. We have used a swing and carseats (of course) and strollers, but babies shouldn’t be in these devices most of the time.

Especially if you breastfeed, a sling is very useful. Not worth the money I would say that getting a bassinet for the stroller would be a waste of money. It sounds like you have a stroller where the car seat snaps in...? The car seat is designed to be safe for your child; having him/her in it for a stroll will not be bad for his/her back. Besides, when the baby is ready to get out -- they'll let you know!

My son has been both on long walks (just in a stroller) and on long car trips (from VA to new york and also VA to PA). We stopped every four hours or so to change his diaper and get him out of the car...but it was more from wanting him to get out energy and be able to move around a bit rather than because it was bad for his back. In my opinion, getting the bassinet would be a waste of money, but if it gives you peace of mind, sometimes thats worth the price!

It really depends on how concerned you are about it. Sources: my own experience; my fiance's mother .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
