Is school lunch helping our children to fight obesity? Or they are helping to add pounds to them?

I am proud of our local elementary school. They serve fresh, locally grown fruit and vegatables. My son has raved about the fresh nectarines, peaches, pears, grapes and a full salad bar.

I believe it's up to us, as parents to educate our children about healthy diet choices. And if you can't count on YOUR local school's menu, then it's up to you as a parent to pack a healthy lunch for your child, daily.

Depending on what school it is really. Children usually will eat what they're accustom to from a small age but there is a small proportion that'll always eat the same foods; usually high in fat & sugars. If you have a school that has healthy food but the kids' parents are feeding them fatty foods on a daily basis, it may not help them at all, because many will not finish the meal.

I think a light lunch box with less oily things and more fruits is definitely helpful for a child for his good health and energy but crowding the lunch box with spicy and heavy things will surely contribute to the obesity. You should try to give things with less carbohydrates and fats and balanced with protein and vitamin.

Well there is no one answer for my question. I think like couple of the comments that I read, it depends on the schools and what the students have accustomed to eat there. In addition to that, I have linked this question with the healthy style or un-healthy style that parents follow inside the house.

Kids look at their parents and I am sure of the fact that they copy what they see. It is all starts from the family and how it is the duty of the parent to choose a healthy food for the entire family.

It completely differs from school to school. A lot of schools these days do offer healthy options to eat, but I think the bigger problem is parents not educating their children what to eat. Just because a school offers a food doesn't mean the kids have to eat it.

That would be like saying every fast food place must shut down. Sadly, many people just don't take precautions to provide their lives with longevity.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
